These simulation results suggest that a fully sustainable energy system for power, heat, transport, and desalination sectors for Bolivia by 2050 is both technically feasible and
New push for pumped storage to power renewables. Pumped storage hydropower has the unique capacity to resolve the challenge of transitioning to renewable energy at huge scale.
The use of intermittent wind power and solar resources require mechanisms of storage for times when there is too much or too little intermittent power in the system. In Latin

There are several types of energy storage technologies that can be employed to support Bolivia''s energy transition, including batteries, pumped hydro storage, and thermal
Natural gas dominates Bolivia''s energy mix and will continue to play a key role due to its existing generation infrastructure; but, lack of permanent exploration processes can lead to rapid
With Chinese and European investors committing $2.3 billion in Q1 2025 alone, Bolivia''s energy transformation is shifting from possibility to inevitability. The question isn''t if they''ll achieve
Energy storage research is inherently interdisciplinary, bridging the gap between engineering, materials and chemical science and engineering, economics, policy and regulatory studies,
Once completed, the project will provide a stable power supply to support industrial development in Cochabamba Province – where the project is located – and neighboring provinces, offering
Bolivia''s ambitious plan to triple its renewable energy capacity by 2026—adding 902 MW of wind and solar—sounds like a green energy dream come true. But here''s the

As previously mentioned, the Bolivian government does not provide any long-term energy planning study, however, the UNFCC (2015b) states that RE will compose 81% of electricity generation by 2030. Bolivia’s scenario for 2027 according to MHE (2009) states that biomass sources will comprise 8% of total final energy demand.
Using Bolivia’s own excellent solar resources to generate synthetic fuels in BPS-1 and BPS-2 would result in energy independence and security. Due to the lack of GHG emission costs in BPS-3 fuel costs remain for the fossil fuels used in the heat and transport sectors. Fig. 23.
In the study of Jacobson et al. (2017), Bolivia’s all-purpose end load would be covered by 22% wind energy, 15% geothermal, 3% hydropower, 49% solar PV, and 10% CSP. For the whole of South America, Löffler et al. (2017), find roughly 40% shares of both hydropower and solar PV, with the remaining 10% covered by wind offshore and onshore.
