TAG Energy has installed solar systems in most of Papua New Guinea’s provinces and districts, specifically the Southern Highlands Province, Western Highlands Province, Central Province, East New Britain, Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Samarai Murua District, Popondetta, and the National Capital District.
While the PNG government aims for 70% electrification by 2030 (World Bank, 2024b), extending the central grid to remote regions is prohibitively expensive and logistically challenging.2 Decentralized solar power offers a promising solution.
