UK-based developer Harmony Energy has three projects included in the bill: the Hinuera Solar Farm in Waikato, the 26MW Bunnythorpe Solar Farm in Manawatū-Whanganui, and the Huirangi Solar Farm in Taranaki, on the western side of New Zealand’s North Island.
Together, the solar and wind projects could add nearly four times as much generation as the Clyde Dam - New Zealand's third-largest hydroelectric plant - with the wind projects generating 300Mw, 80Mw and 39Mw at peak output respectively and the solar farms adding up to 1147Mw.
Of these projects, 22 are dedicated to renewable energy, with 10 focusing specifically on solar PV. The list includes several large-scale developments, such as the 420MW Point Solar Farm on New Zealand’s South Island. Also fast-tracked in the Canterbury region are the 88MW Balmoral Station solar array and the Black Point solar plant.
The list includes 44 housing developments, 7 aquaculture and farming projects, 43 infrastructure projects, 22 renewable energy projects, and 11 mining and quarrying projects. The locations of some projects were unspecified, such as the Waikato-based 'Green Steel' project to recycle shredded steel.
